Gun Violence: A Tragic Reality in American Culture

Everyday across America, people get up and go to work. Some people drop their kids off at school on the way to work or stop and grab a coffee to take to drink at their desk. It’s just an ordinary day. But in 2016, for 96 Americans it wasn’t just an ordinary day. Why? Because they were killed by gun violence. On an average day, 96 Americans are killed with gunsaccording to Everytown Researchin 2016.1That’s 96 Americans too many that lost their lives by gun violence.Injuries by gun violence also take their toll on innocent victims. In the US from 2001 to 2013, approximately 921,613 people suffered nonfatal injuries from firearms according to research published in the American Journal of Epidemiology. 2These injuries could affect a person’s health for the rest of their lives.

Are You at Risk?

According to a recent research study by Pew Research Center, about 4-in-10 American adults (42%) say they live in a household with a gun3making anyone a potential victim of gun violence. In the first month of this year,an alarming 1,326 deaths and 2,382 injuries from gun violence have already occurred in the United States in 2018 according to statistics by Gun Violence Archive.4 Nobody is safe from being a target of gun violence, but some people could be considered more prominent targets because of their celebrity status – actors, politicians, musicians, athletes, and executives with high ranking positions in companies or organizations.

Top Level Executives Need Protection

In today’s volatile society, executive protection isn’t a luxury. It’s a necessity.High level executives like CEOs are considered a valuable asset to the companies they manage. And valuable assets need protection. Executives are privy to private company information and strategies, product development, and trade secrets. Their high profiles can make them an attractive target to disgruntled employees with a grudge, terminated employees who view their dismissal as the fault of upper management, or upset employees embroiled in a labour dispute. Security companies like National Security Service (NSS) offer executive protection services to high level management and their families to keep them safe from violence.

Schools and Places of Worship Can Be Targets

No one can forget the carnage caused by a mass shooter at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut in 2012 or the 26 people who lost their lives to a deranged gunman in the fall of 2017 at a small rural church in Sutherland Springs, Texas. Children deserve to have an education free from violence. And places of worship have traditionally been respected as peaceful places of refuge.Professional unarmed security guards are working to help keep people safe from gun violence in churches and schools.

The lives of countless Americans have been drastically changed by gun violence. Staying safe in society today poses a significant challenge. Security guards from top notch security guard companies like NSS are doing their best to keep the people in their care safe.

Should You Hire Unarmed or Armed Security Guards?

You need to hire security guards, but you have little to no experience in that area. You’ve seen security guards in the bank and at your office building. You know that some guards are carrying firearms and others aren’t. You’ve been given the major responsibility of deciding whether armed or unarmed security guards would be the best fit for protecting the people and property in your care. Both types of security guards play a crucial role in protecting people and property, but there are pros and cons to consider when hiring unarmed vs. armed security guards. At National Security Service (NSS), we can help you decide which type of guard you should hire given your individual circumstances.

Not All Security Needs Are Alike

You want the best possible protection that suits your individual security needs. In certain situations, it may be more beneficial to hire well-trained unarmed security officers rather than armed security guards. For example, employees or residents of an apartment complex may feel safer knowing unarmed security personnel are present in their building checking identification and patrolling the premises. As a visible deterrent, unarmed security guards help prevent crimes from happening and quickly respond to emergencies like fire, theft or personal injury.

You may need armed security guards if your specific needs require an enhanced level of security such as personal protection or protecting high-value assets. You might consider hiring armed security guards if the guards will be working in a high crime area to provide a higher level of protection. As an armed and unarmed security guard company, we can offer you the highest standard of protection for your individual needs without compromising your safety or peace of mind.

Significant Advantages to Employing Unarmed Security Guards

Unarmed security officers are much less expensive to hire and liability risks are lower than when hiring armed security guards. As one of the top security guard companies in the US, all our guards are well-trained and fully equipped to assess suspicious situations and react appropriately. However, armed security guards require more extensive training including the proper and safe use of firearms. With the additional training comes the higher cost to hire armed security guards. Many armed guards have previous military or law enforcement training. Alternatively, unarmed security guards don’t require the additional training so are less expensive to hire, but still fully qualified to meet your individual security needs.

Some situations are better suited to unarmed security guards instead of armed guards. As one of the best security guard companies in New York City, let us put our years of extensive experience and expertise providing security guard services to work for you. Visit us today at www.guardstogo.com.

A well-known nationwide security guard service, long known for its user-friendly approach to customer service, just got even friendlier. Now, it’s even easier for clients on the go, to request a price quote for guard service. The key is a new app now available from National Security Service (NSS), one of the leading companies in the field, with hundreds of field offices spanning every state in the nation.

The free GuardsToGo app gives users the ability to easily request price quotes for top quality security details, from their smartphones, a company official said in announcing the new service.

“Any of our clients or potential clients will enjoy the simplicity and efficiency of the GuardsToGo app,” the spokesman said, “but we believe it will be especially welcomed by businesspersons who find themselves faced with an unexpected or short-term need for security guards.”

“It’s also a lifeline for busy managers who are frequently out of their offices when the need for security guards comes up. Along with professionalism and reliability, we pride ourselves on our ability to deliver state-of-the-art solutions wherever and whenever our clients need them,” he added.

The GuardsToGo app is just one more example of the ways in which National Security Service utilizes the latest technology to ensure its services are accessible and client-centered, he said.

With the GuardsToGo app, users of both IOS (iPhone) and Android smartphones can either just click a link to call in and speak with an NSS Security Coordinator on the spot, or submit the app’s easy to use “Request Price Quote” form. Whichever method they choose, NSS will deliver a customized quote to their email address within an hour, the company announcement explained.

NSS security guard services are available to businesses and residential clients in communities throughout the U.S. The company offers a comprehensive portfolio of security solutions ranging from retail and event security, including mobile patrols, fire watch, armed guards, disaster response security, school security, personal protection, construction site security, and more.

National Security Service Provides Guard Services for Megan’s House Event

Lowell, Mass.—As part of its far-reaching commitment to corporate philanthropy, National Security Service (NSS) provided important support last month for the Megan’s House Foundation’s 2nd Annual Golf Tournament.

The nationwide security firm is a frequent supporter of selected nonprofits around the country through the donation of its specialized Event Security services. Event Security is one aspect of of NSS’s extensive portfolio of professional guard services for the full range of security needs.

The Megan’s House event drew some 150 golfers for the tournament and hundreds more supporters for a day of food, fun, and games for people of all ages. In all, the event raised more than $30,000 for Megan’s House, a comprehensive residential substance abuse treatment home for young women between the ages of 18 and 26 who struggle with addiction, including those caught up in the widely-recognized epidemic of opioid addiction.

Opioids are a class of drugs that includes not only illegal narcotics such as heroin but also many prescription painkillers, including fentanyl, oxycodone, and hydrocodone. Experts say that more than 21 million Americans struggle with substance abuse, a figure that includes about two million people abusing prescription drugs and nearly 600,000 heroin users.

Following the golf contest, the group hosted a luncheon headlined by the tournament’s Honorary Chairman, State Representative Tom Golden, a longtime leader in Massachusetts in responding to the crisis of opioid addiction. Golden also played the role of auctioneer and good-humored arm-twister for the day’s culminating feature, an auction of donated goods and services and raffle items.

In securing the event—as with all of the charity events it works—NSS takes the business of keeping guests and property safe and secure off the shoulders of the organizers, giving them one less thing to worry about, a National Security Service spokesman explained.

“There’s one thing nobody needs in the midst of planning, promoting, and staging an event–large or small: One more thing to worry about,” he said. “NSS Event Security Guards have the training, expertise, and experience to ensure a secure event, without becoming intrusive.”

With 437 field offices covering all 50 states, NSS has deep experience in providing security guard services for events of all types and sizes, from corporate meetings to parties and promotional events, fundraisers of all sorts, and large performance and sporting events, the spokesman added.

Whether it is a corporate meeting, a party, an entertainment venue, a promotional event, or anything else you have in the works, event security always requires a rare breed of event security guards who can bring the blend of experience, judgement, sensitivity, efficiency, and professionalism that you expect and your guests deserve.

For their part, a representative of the Megan’s House Foundation said that NSS support was an important contribution to the success of the golf tournament and the day’s other events. “Such generosity,” he said, “will go a long way toward ensuring the residents of Megan’s House continue to receive the treatment and services necessary to help them overcome addiction and grow to lead independent lives.”

Factors To Consider When Choosing An Events Security Company

Are the guards qualified?

SIA licensing brings an assurance of the skills and probity of those responsible for the security of people and property. Professional, properly qualified and reliable Event security personnel play a key part in the success of any event whatever the size. According to the Private Security Industry Act 2000, the qualified Event security personnel must hold valid SIA Licenses if they are to work in a licensed venue.

The size of the crowd

The experience of the company in handling Special Events Security is one of the factors that should count when choosing which Events security company to hire. Companies which have experience in dealing with large crowds will definitely be in a position to deal with any type of crowd whether big or small.

The type of the crowd

Although security guards are not meant to be fighting with patrons or guests their physical build is an issue that must be considered especially in a rowdy environment, tall well built events security guards or stewards can create an intimidating presence for any would be trouble causers like gate crashers.

Communication

The events security guards or stewards you are hiring must be able to effectively communicate with the patrons or guests. Failure to adequately communicate might lead up to misunderstandings which often result in trouble. Effective communication is also very important when it comes to evacuation in case of an emergency.

Your budget

How much you are you willing spend on your Events Security determines which security guard company you will hire to provide you with events security guards or stewards. You might consider even getting volunteer event stewards if you have serious budget constraints. The only problem with this arrangement is the level of commitment and accountability expected from volunteers is not the same you would expect from guards you are paying.

Insurance

Although not a legal requirement. It is good business practise for a Special Event Security company to have public liability insurance. The fact that events whether private or public have to do with the security company dealing with the public it is always safer to prepare for any eventuality.

Location of the event

Given that some security companies can only provide their services in a given locality it is always good to find out whether the security firm you want to hire would provide the service in the area where you are organising the event.
